Red Lake Nation Visioning Event

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

The four communities of the Red Lake Nation met on Jan 18 to coordinate their community visions into a collaborative front as a tribal effort where that might be appropriate.  All four communities (Red Lake, Redby, Little Rock and Ponemah) have completed individual community visions and are combining where they can to see where those efforts can create synergy and collaboration from a Tribal perspective.  The celebration includes sharing of the community visions, a concert for those attending by the local band “Indian Country” and a community feast.  Check out the photos from the Red Lake Nation News.  Local law enforcement showed their support and set up a display that allowed participants to wear goggles that simulated a 2.0 blood alcohol content.  The HORIZONS leaders shared results from LeadershipPlenty action sandwich activities about the Nation as a whole.  Nice job David Isham (coach) and the folks from the Red Lake Nation.

Adding users for community blogging

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

(This is the same process for adding community users)

1. Have all the staff that will be involved in blogging or blog training or coaching communities go to http://communityblogs.us/and sign up for a user account.

  • Create a user name
  • Enter your email
  • The security question answer is Northwest
  • Check the box “Just a username, please”.
  • They will receive an email to verify the sign-in. They have to follow those directions within two days.
  • They will then receive an email with their temporary password

After you have activated your account contact your Coach or community blog administrator to add you to the blog.

2. After staff has signed in, sign in with your DO account, go to the appropriate blog (you have to be in the blog you are adding the people to—you can see in the upper left corner) and go to the “Users” tab.

  • Go to the bottom of the screen (“Add User from Community”)
  • Type in their email
  • Select the appropriate Role
  • Click “Add user”
  • Repeat for everyone for that blog
  • Repeat for each community, assigning the appropriate coach
  • Give the coaches the Administrative role for now and they can follow the same procedure for signing up community members.
  • Assign the Editor role to the main community blogger.

Summary of Roles

  • Administrator - Somebody who has access to all the administration features
  • Editor - Somebody who can publish posts, manage posts as well as manage other people’s posts, etc.
  • Author - Somebody who can publish and manage their own posts

More blogging in South Dakota

Community members from the communities of White River, Parmalee, olc_background2.jpgMission/Antelope, and Pejuta HaKa (Kyle) attended blog training in Martin on December 7th.  The community members braved heavy snowfall and slippery roads to travel to the Oglala Lakota College – Lacreek college center in Martin to learn to tell their community stories.  Thanks to Griff Wigley for the great training.  Hats off to Community coaches Daphne Richards-Cook and Avery Thompson for getting the word out.  A final THANK YOU to Deborah His Horse is Thunder for coordinating the whole event.
